Reflection: AI in Project Management – Enhancing Efficiency and Decision-Making

Reading: “Artificial Intelligence in Project Management: Enhancing Efficiency and Decision-Making” by Dr. Md. Mahfuzul Islam Shamim, International Journal of Management Information Systems and Data Science (April 2024).

This article provided an overview of how AI is transforming core project management functions, including planning, scheduling, resource allocation, and stakeholder communication. Dr. Shamim emphasizes that AI-powered systems offer predictive insights and optimize processes, helping project managers make better decisions faster. A crucial takeaway was how machine learning algorithms improve resource allocation dynamically, ensuring that project delays and cost overruns are minimized.

One part that stood out to me was the discussion on ethical considerations—AI must operate transparently to maintain trust. This idea ties back to the principles from the AI4People framework, which I read earlier. This article reinforced my belief that AI must balance efficiency with fairness and accountability, especially in industries where complex decision-making is essential, such as oil and gas.

In my next workshop, I plan to showcase this article’s practical insights, focusing on how AI tools can optimize resource distribution even in unpredictable environments—a pain point many participants encounter.
